School Prints

The school prints were a series of lithographs, born of the idealistic dream of Derek and Brenda Rawnsley, who wanted to bring the experience of quality art to children who would otherwise not have the oppertunity to see it. Their idea was to commision some of the best contemporary artists to produce prints for junior schools. Derek Rawnsley was killed during the second world war, but his young widow determind to fufill their dream and dispite having no artistic background managed to convince six of the most important artists of the day to produce work for this eclectic and important project.
