Melvyn Evans

Kings Framers are delighted to stock several limited edition linocuts by Sussex-based artist Melvyn Evans. After working on submarines as a engineer Melvyn complete a BA hons degree at Exeter College of Art and Design and moved to London to study at Goldsmiths College. While in London he took up drawing classes at the Royal College of Art under the tuition of Bryan Kneale RA. He has been working as a professional illustrator and printmaker since 1992. His work has been exhibited at the Royal College of Art and Somerset House. Melvyns work has also been used for Design and Advertising in the UK and abroad, notably with campaigns for Halifax Building Society, packaging and point of sales for Waitrose, Marks and Spencer, Mini Cooper, Channel 4 and Vodaphone.

Melvyn often uses texture to soften the graphic quality that linocuts possess, and to develop a more painterly quality to the final image. Using textures in this way also brings into play an element of chance, offsetting the rigid graphic and fairly controlled process of cutting the lino with tools.
