Luella Martin

Luella Martin

Luella Martin is a painter and printmaker based in Brighton, East Sussex. The landscapes and townscapes she depicts are inspired by places she knows well and continues to return to. Her recent series of solar etchings are produced by exposing a light sensitized metal plate to UV light which creates a positive image. The plat is then inked and applied to paper. The method is a much more eco-firendly version of traditional etching techniques as it does not use harmful chemicals or copper plates.
Born in London Martin studied at Horsey & Byam College of art before pursuing postgraduate studies at Goldsmiths. She lectured part time in London and Brighton before travelling around Europe and living in Australia for 12 years. Shen returned to Brighton in 1997 and works full-time at her studio at Pheonix studio and gallery in Brighton.
