Hello, my name is Peta King. This is my first Blog entry for Kings Framers as we launch our brand new website. We have been busily putting the final touches to the site, but last week did manage a flying visit to Cornwall to see two of our favourite artists, Roger Hilton at the Newlyn Art Gallery -- a celebration of 100 years since his birth -- and a lovely collection of works on paper by Sir Terry Frost at the Belgrave Gallery St Ives. These are two of the artists whose work has helped to define our taste in modern British art.

In our early years as Firle Framers we were lucky enough to be commissioned to frame a major collection of works on paper by Roger Hilton, and the joy we took in framing these works has always endured. Now, almost twenty years on, revisiting these images recalls those early days, the freshness and vigour in Hilton's paintings and how it infused our exciting beginnings as a business.

We also currently carry a good collection of Frost prints, woodcuts and collages, but the Belgrave gallery showed an usual collection of rare and very personal sketches and gouaches. I thoroughly enjoyed this more intimate look at his way of working, and would recommend a visit to anyone.

It was also great to see the collaboration between the Belgrave Gallery and Artizan Editions; Artizan are the highly-skilled screenprinters who work with several of the artists in our collection, including Bridget Riley, John Simpson and Henrik Simonsen, and with whom we worked when we put on a solo show of Briget Riley's original screenprints at the end of the summer of 2010.

That's it for our first Blog installment, thank you for stopping by. We look forward to hearing what people think of our beautiful new website; customer contact has been the lifeblood of our wonderful two decades in business, so please drop us a line, or pop in to the shop and say hello!
